Do We Really Need a Tribe?
Before coming to experience this brief lifetime
we were once all one — bound by Love.
This love has always been the Source
of our life force and profoundly links
all of us to each other.
Because we miss our home, we understandably
link up with groups of people
who have similar interests and backgrounds
to help take away that lonely feeling.
In efforts to control these groups
charismatic leaders sometimes try to convince us
that our group is better than all others
which feeds our egos but also undermines
our personal power —
diminishing our connection to everyone else.
This is the beginning of Tribalism.
To further distinguish ourselves
from other groups
we create flags, rituals, uniforms, build walls
and control media access
further separating ourselves from the whole —
and in doing so we surrender our life force
to the leaders of our group.
We are eventually told that "others" are dangerous
so we need to protect ourselves from them.
We then create weapons.
It's important to know that the apparent existence
of "enemies" binds a tribe together
and when bigotry becomes patriotism
these tyrants have achieved their goals.
We then invade others out of loyalty to our tribe
our "Patriotism” and the fear that is instilled in us —
motivated by the greed of our leaders.
(Selling arms is very profitable!)
There are far more resources of every type
available to everyone on this planet
which could make us all
very comfortable and happy.
If all of us refused to buy into their hatred
and decided to help each other
rather than kill each other, this planet
would truly become a “Heaven on Earth.”
Could that be one of the things
that we came here to learn?
(Excerpt from my book, Learning to Fly)
